Hutchinson CC Sports Information

For just the third time in Hutchinson Community College Baseball history, three former players were selected in the same Major League Baseball Draft.

Late on Wednesday, pitcher/outfielder Robert Milacki was taken in the 38th round with the 1,151st overall selection by the Washington Nationals.

Milacki played at Hutchinson in 2016 and then moved onto Arizona Christian University for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Milacki's father, Bob, was a long-time major league pitcher and currently serves as a pitching instructor in the Nationals' organization.

Milacki joins former Blue Dragons Nolan Hoffman and Michael Helman as 2018 draft selections. Hoffman on Tuesday was taken in the fifth round by the Seattle Mariners. Helman was chosen on Wednesday in the 11th round by the Minnesota Twins.

This marks the third time three Blue Dragons were selected in the same draft. Aaron Marsden (Colorado Rockies), Richard Breshears (Seattle Mariners) and Derek Roper (St. Louis Cardinals) were selected in the 2003 draft. One year later, Jon Hunton (Chicago Cubs), Danny Calvert (Cleveland Indians) and Ryan Finan (Baltimore Orioles) were selected in the same draft.

Blue Dragon Baseball now a total of 37 players who have been selected in the MLB Draft. Another 12 have signed with MLB teams as undrafted free agents.

Transferring from Grand Canyon University before the 2016 season, Milacki was a one-year player for the Blue Dragons.

On the mound, Milacki was 6-2 with a 4.41 ERA in 10 starts and 12 overall appearances. He worked 49 innings and allowed 52 hits, 31 runs, 24 earned runs with 34 strikeouts and 11 walks. His single-best game on the mound in 2016 was a complete nine-inning game victory over Rose State. He allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out a season-high seven and walking only one. Milacki earned Jayhawk Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for that outing.

Milacki also played 29 games in right field, starting 19. He hit .294 (25 for 85) with four doubles, two homers and two RBIs.

Milacki had a huge moment in the 2016 Region VI Tournament where in the ninth inning against Johnson County – Hutch was down to its final out trailing by one run – he hit a solo game-tying home run to force extra innings.

This past season at Arizona Christian, Milacki was an all-conference performance as a pitcher, going 6-5 with a 4.26 ERA. He led ACU with 87 strikeouts in 82 1-3 innings pitched.

Milacki is now the eighth Blue Dragon coached by Ryan Schmidt to be drafted.

Milacki is the second Blue Dragon to be drafted by the Nationals' organization. The Nationals drafted pitcher Kyle Simonds in the 14th round of the 2016 draft.
