Because Mother Nature has done her level best to completely wreck the early stages of the 2019 baseball season, the Jayhawk Conference has struck back to ensure the level of play in league games isn't compromised.

Jayhawk Conference commissioner Carl Heinrich and Region VI men's director Mike Saddler announced that the opening round of play of Jayhawk Conference games set for next weekend will be moved to the back end of the schedule.

What that means for the Hutchinson Community College baseball team is that its conference opening series against Cloud County set for Thursday, February 28 in Hutchinson and March 2 in Concordia has been moved to May 2 and May 4. The first doubleheader will be played at Hobart-Detter Field and the second two days later in Concordia.

The Blue Dragons will now open Jayhawk West play against Butler – March 7 in El Dorado and March 9 in Hutchinson.

The scheduling change means that the start of the postseason moves back a week with Region VI Tournament opening-round series across the state on May 9, 10 and 11. The Central District Tournament will be the next week at Wichita State's Eck Stadium.

The Blue Dragons didn't have any midweek games scheduled for the next two weeks, but head coach Ryan Schmidt is now looking for some games before the Butler opener on March 7. BlueDragonSports.com and the Blue Dragon social media pages will keep you up to date on all schedule changes.

The 20th-ranked Blue Dragons are 7-3 after taking 2 of 3 games from Rose State on Thursday and Friday.
