The Hutchinson Community College Athletic Department has hired Kala White as the Blue Dragons' new Spirit Squad head coach.

White, a native of Claremore, Oklahoma, comes to Hutchinson from Neosho County Community College in Chanute. White was Neosho County's cheer and dance assistant coach for two seasons before being promoted to head coach for the 2017-2018 season.

"We are extremely excited to bring Kala White to Hutchinson Community College and continue to grow our spirit squads," Blue Dragon Athletic Director Josh Gooch said. "The Cheer and Dance teams at HutchCC are an integral part of what makes Blue Dragon Nation so special."

White's coaching history isn't all tied to cheer and dance.

She was also an assistant softball coach at Labette Community College, where she also cheered and played softball. White also was a cheerleader at Pittsburg State University. That cheer program finished fourth in the nation in 2013 at the National Cheerleading championships.

White was a student assistant coach for two seasons at Labette (2013-15) before moving to Neosho County.

White's 2017-18 Neosho County squad was well recognized after the Panther cheer squad finished second at the Region VI Championships and the dance team was sixth in Region VI. Neosho County also finished seventh at the NCA Nationals in the intermediate junior college division.

"Coach White's experience and passion make her a great fit and I look forward to working with her to grow both programs," Gooch said.

White will begin her duties at Hutchinson in early July.
