Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Off to a 10-1 start to the 2017-18 season, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team is No., 6 in the first regular season NJCAA Division I rankings, which were released on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons were the preseason No. 1 team in the NJCAA Rankings. The only blemish in the first 11 games was an 81-78 overtime road loss at Cloud County on Nov. 15. Among the 10 victories are six in the Jayhawk Conference, including a 37-point victory over then No. 14 Coffeyville.

Hutchinson and Coffeyville remain the only Jayhawk Conference teams ranked. The Red Ravens moved up a spot to No. 13.

Northwest Florida State (12-0) received all 16 first-place votes in the first rankings of the season. Vincennes University (12-0) is No. 2, followed by Indian Hills (10-0), Tallahassee (10-3) and Salt Lake (13-0). The Blue Dragons are the highest-ranked team with a loss.

The Blue Dragons have now been ranked for 35 consecutive polling periods and for the 66th time in the last 67 polling periods. The No. 6 ranking is the lowest the Blue Dragons have been since Jan. 31 of last season when their only regular-season loss against Coffeyville dropped them from No. 2 to No. 6.

Hutchinson faces two stern tests this week before the Christmas break.

The Blue Dragons travel to Butler to take on the rival Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Power Plant. The Dragons then play host to Barton, two of the three teams deadlocked for first place heading into Wednesday's game, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Sports Arena.
