Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team's national ranking wasn't damaged by the season's lone loss at No. 4 Coffeyville last week.

In fact, the 10-1 Blue Dragons moved up two spots to No. 7 in the first regular-season NJCAA Division I Rankings of the season, which were released on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons extend their run of consecutive weeks in the NJCAA Rankings to 46. The Blue Dragons started No. 9 in the preseason poll. Hutchinson has appeared in 77 of the last 78 polling periods.

The Dragons return to the Top 10 in the regular-season rankings since January 9, 2018 when they were No. 8.

The only team to defeat Hutchinson this season remains at No. 4. Coffeyville (9-1) stayed put despite a loss to unranked NEO in Miami, Oklahoma.

Barton made the biggest jump of any team in the rankings, going from unranked and unmentioned in the preseason rankings to No. 9 with a 10-0 record. Hutch and Barton's first meeting of the season will be January 30 in Great Bend with the rematch on Feb. 20 at the Sports Arena.

A fourth Jayhawk Conference team is receiving votes this week. The Allen Red Devils are 10-1 and are considered a dark horse in the Jayhawk East this season.

Northwest Florida State and South Plains survived the first five weeks of the regular season to remain Nos. 1 and 2. Vincennes University jumps up three spots to No. 3, then Coffeyville and Florida SouthWestern State.

The Blue Dragons travel to Neosho County on Wednesday and then play host to Butler on Saturday at the Sports Arena.
