Hutchinson CC Sports Information
It was a tough week for the Jayhawk Conference's top men's teams according to the latest NJCAA Division I Rankings released on Tuesday.
The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team suffered a loss in its only action last week at Cloud County and dropped six spots to No. 14, the second-straight week the Blue Dragons dropped in the rankings.
In addition to the Blue Dragons, former No. 3 Coffeyville lost on Saturday at Seward County and dropped seven spots to No. 10. Barton, which was No. 9 two weeks ago, has slipped into the receiving votes list.
All three teams have two losses as the season reaches the holiday break.
The Blue Dragons fell to 12-2 overall after a 72-64 loss at Cloud County. The Thunderbirds scored the game's final eight points, all coming in the last 54 seconds of the game.
The Blue Dragons extend their run of consecutive weeks in the NJCAA Rankings to 48. The Blue Dragons started No. 9 in the preseason poll. Hutchinson has appeared in 79 of the last 80 polling periods.
The Blue Dragons will be off until January 5 when they travel to Allen and won't return to the Hutchinson Sports Arena until January 12 to take on the Cowley Tigers and complete their run through the Jayhawk East.
South Plains remains No. 1 for a second-straight week, getting 13 of the 16 first-place votes this week. No. 2 Vincennes University picked up the other three first place votes. Northwest Florida State is No. 3, followed by Tallahassee and Florida SouthWestern.
