Hutchinson CC Sports Information

One win over a nationally ranked opponent and then the largest halftime comeback of the season keep the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team perched at No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings.

Released on Monday, the Blue Dragons moved to 10-0 with a 92-71 win over No. 17 Coffeyville at home and a come-from-behind 85-83 victory at Independence last week. This is the 13th time in program history, which dates back to the 1928-29 season, the Blue Dragons start 10-0 in a season.

The Blue Dragons received one of the 16 first-place votes. No. 1 Ranger got the other 15, but Hutchinson closed the gap in points. Last week, Hutchinson trailed Ranger by 17 points. On Monday, that deficit was down to four, 399-395.

Defending national champion Vincennes is ranked third and Pearl River remains fourth. Off to a 12-0 start, Otero moves up three spots to No. 5.

Hutchinson has been ranked in 89 of the last 93 ranking periods.

Coffeyville dropped into a three-way tie for 24th after the loss to Hutchinson, which Cowley moves into 22nd at 10-2. The Blue Dragons at Tigers play on January 11 at Arkansas City. Colby and Independence are receiving votes.

Hutchinson has three games remaining in the first semester – Wednesday vs. Neosho County at home, Saturday at Butler and Cloud County at the Sports Arena on December 11.
