WICHITA – With much friendlier scoring conditions at Crestview Country Club on Tuesday, the Hutchinson Community College finished closed the Newman University Fall Invitational with a 4-over par 292 on Tuesday.
The unfortunately thing for the No. 4/6 ranked Blue Dragons was that every other team in the field went a lot lower on Tuesday as well.
The Blue Dragons finished sixth overall with a team score of 906. Under windy course conditions on Monday, the Dragons were plus-38 through the first two rounds. Hutchinson was playing in its first fall tournament of the season this week.
Sophomore Andrew Rios-Ceballos led the Tuesday charge with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Sophomores Matt Percy and Doug Rios-Ceballos were right behind with a pair of 73s. Freshman Joseph O'Neill shot a 2-over 74 to complete Hutch's 292 team score. Sophomore Cole Gritton fired a 78 on Tuesday.
Southeastern Oklahoma State won the team championship with an 891, just one stroke better than Central Oklahoma. Southeastern shot 289 on Tuesday to Central's 290. The low team round of the day went to Arkansas Fort Smith, which shot a 4-under 284.
Percy was Hutchinson's top finisher for the tournament. After a second-straight 73 following his opening-round 78, Percy tied for eighth at 224.
Doug Rios-Ceballos tied for 13th at 226. He opened the tournament with an 80 and finished with a pair of 73s.
Andrew Rios-Ceballos tied for 32nd at 230 (78-80-72). Gritton tied for 36th at 232 (73-81-78). O'Neill tied for 39th at 233 (80-79-74).
Southeastern Oklahoma State's Zach James won the individual title by two strokes over Arkansas-Fort Smith's Chris Eckles after back-to-back rounds of 2-under 70. James shot 214 over 54 holes.
The Blue Dragons are next in action next Monday and Tuesday in the Iowa Western Fall Classic in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
