COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The final round of the Iowa Western Bent Tree Intercollegiate was canceled on Tuesday because of weather.
The six-team field was supposed to tee off the final round of the tournament at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, but the weather did not cooperate. Temperatures in Council Bluffs were 39 degrees with a wind chill of 29, cloudy skies and a north wind of 25 gusting to 40. More precipitation was in Tuesday's forecast for western Iowa.
That meant the tournament was cut to 36 holes and the Nos. 4 and 6 Blue Dragons finished third behind two teams ahead of them in the national rankings. No. 1 Indian Hills won the tournament at 586, 18 shots ahead of No. 3 Iowa Western. The Blue Dragons finished third with a team score of 617 after Monday rounds of 304 and 313.
Sophomore Andrew Rios-Ceballos was Hutchinson's top placer, finishing in a tie for fourth place with a 4-over 148. Rios-Ceballos had an ever-par round of 72 to open Monday and then carded a 76 in the second round.
The Blue Dragons had two individual players in the field. Freshman Max Smith tied for 23rd at 163. Freshman Lake LeRoux was 37th with a 187.
The Blue Dragons are next in action next Monday and Tuesday at the NJCAA National Preview at NJCAA National Preview in Lubbock, Texas.
