MELBOURNE, Florida – The No. 6-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team had an up and down day in the opening round of the NJCAA Division I Golf Championships at Duran Country Club.

Paired with a couple of teams that were red-hot before a four-hour rain delay, the Blue Dragons shot a 4-over par 292 on Tuesday and are tied with John A. Logan for 13th place. John A. Logan was one of nine teams that weren't able to complete the opening round on Tuesday.

Those rounds will be completed Wednesday morning before the second of four rounds begins.

Leading the way individually for the Blue Dragons was freshman Charlie Herbert, who shot a 3-under 69 on Tuesday. He is tied for sixth place individually. Herbert was 3-under at the turn and was 5-under after a birdie on No. 13. He closed with bogeys on No. 15 and No. 18 to close as the low Dragon golfer.

Freshman Charlie Crockett is tied for 34th in the opening round. He finished at even-par 72. Crockett had bogeys on Nos. 1 and 5, but finished the back nine in 2-under with birdies on No. 11 and No. 15, both par-5 holes.

Freshman Nathan McCulloch started his day with nine-straight pars before an up-and-down back nine. With four bogeys and a birdie on No. 17, McCulloch is tied for 71st at 3-over 75.

The Dragons also counted freshman Peyton Austin's four-over 76 in the team score on Tuesday. Austin is tied for 87th in the first round.

Sophomore Lake Leroux finished at 6-over 78 and is tied for 103rd.

New Mexico Junior College is the team leader at 11-under 277.
