DRAGONS SAVE BEST FOR FINAL NJCAA ROUND

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Hutchinson Community College men's golf team shot its best round of the 2019 NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Friday at the Duran Golf Club.

Led by Charlie Crocket's season-low 66, the Blue Dragons shot a tournament-low 291to finish in 13th place in the championship.

The Blue Dragons finished with a four-round total of 1,168 (292-294-303-291). The Dragons placed 11th at the national tournament last season.

Crockett posted his Blue Dragon career-low round with a 6-under 66 on Friday. Crockett had a pair of 67s in the fall season. The 2019 Jayhawk Conference and Region VI champion had Friday's round as low as 7-under with birdies on Nos. 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, 15 and 16. The only blemish on his incredible round was a bogey on No. 18.

The Dragons also counted rounds on Friday from Charlie Herbert, who had a triple bogey on his final hole to finish at 3-iver 75. Freshman Peyton Austin had his best round of the national champion with a 74 and sophomore Lake Leroux had a 76.

Dodge City edged the Blue Dragons for the best-finishing Jayhawk Conference team at nationals. Dodge City was 11th at 1,168. Garden City finished 16th at 1,191

Central Alabama surpassed Indian Hills for the team national championship. Central Alabama shot a 280 on Friday to finish at 1,116 and wound up winning the tournament by 13 strokes after trailing Indian Hills by a single stroke entering the final round. IHCC finished with a 294 and 1,129 team total.

Herbert finishes as the top-placing Blue Dragon golfers. Herbert (69-70-74-75) finished tied for 20th even par 288.

Austin finished 79th overall at 304 with rounds of 76, 75, 79 and 74.

Leroux (78-76-75-76) tied for 76th with a 72-hole total of 307. Nathan McCulloch (75-76-75-84) finished 93rd overall with a 316 tournament total.

Callum Brice of Midland matched Crockett for the low round of the day on Friday. Brice's 66 carried him to the NJCAA individual championship with a 17-under s ore of 271. Central Alabama's Jack Poole was second at 275.
