AMARILLO, Texas – The 10th-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team had a bit of a roller-coaster ride in the first two rounds of the 2019 fall season on Monday.
After shooting even par to open the West Texas A&M Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational, the Blue Dragons shot 7-over in windy conditions to finish at 575 after 36 holes. The Blue Dragons are 16 strokes off the pace of team leader St. Edwards University.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Toscosa Golf Club.
All-American Charlie Crockett got the Blue Dragons off to a strong start in the morning round shooting a 4-under 67. That round included six birdies and two bogeys. Crockett played the final nine holes in 3-under par.
Freshman Tyler Trudo joined Crockett with a 2-under round of 69 in the morning session. The Blue Dragons also counted Nathan McCulloch's 1-over 73 and Peyton Austin's 4-over 75 for a morning round of 284.
With tougher conditions on Monday afternoon, Crockett again turned in the low team round of even-par 71. The Dragons also counted McCulloch's 72, Trudo's 73 and Austin's 75 for an afternoon team-round of 7-over 291.
Individually, Crockett is in a three-way tie for third at 4-under 138. Crockett is just one stroke off the individual lead of Oklahoma Christian's Trevor Norby and St. Edwards' Jake Livermore, who are at 5-under 137.
Trudo is the only other Dragon in the individual Top 20. He's tied for 20th at even-par 142.
McCulloch is tied for 35th at 145. Austin is tied for 61st at 150.
Freshman Trey McCrae is tied for 78th at 155 after rounds of 78 and 77.
