CROCKETT PACES DRAGONS IN ROUND 1 AT KCK INVITE

KANSAS CITY, Kansas – Under tough scoring conditions at Dub's Dread Golf Course, the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team leads the six-team field by three strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.

The No. 4-ranked Blue Dragons shot a 304 in Monday's only round of the 36-hole tournament. Host Kansas City is second at 307 and Washburn University is third at 308. Rockhurst University shot a 315 to finish the opening round in fourth. Barton shot 325 and is fifth while Bethel College is sixth after a 351 on Monday.

Crockett and Kansas City's Cam Riley were the only two golfers to shoot even par on Monday and lead's the individual title chase after opening-round 72s. The Blue Dragons counted scores of 76 by sophomore Nate McCulloch and 78s by sophomore Peyton Austin and freshman Trey McCrae. Freshman Tyler Trudo shot an 83 as the Blue Dragons' fifth golfer.

McCulloch is fifth after Monday's round. Austin and McCrae are tied for 13th.

Two Blue Dragon individual players – players who can't count against Hutch's team score – are right in the thick of the individual race.

Freshman Kyle Klopper is third overall after a 74 in the opening round. Nolan Sughroue is tied for fifth after carding a 76 on Monday.

The Blue Dragons will tee off between 10 and 10:40 a.m. to close out the tournament on Tuesday.
