TWIN FALLS, Idaho – One day after upsetting the No. 4 team in the nation, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team continued to play well on Day 2 of the CSI/Starr Corp. Classic.
Hutchinson swept Northwest College 25-13, 25-18, 25-20 in the first match on Saturday. The Dragon momentum was slowed by No. 6 and tournament host College of Southern Idaho in the final match of the day in a 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 loss to the Golden Eagles.
The Blue Dragons finish the tournament filled with nationally ranked opponents 2-2 and are 7-4 overall heading into Wednesday's match at the Sports Arena against the Butler Grizzlies.
Hutchinson hit .460 and got another tremendous setting effort from Katie Jorn in a 3-0 victory over the Trappers.
Sophomore Page Hiebert hit .393 with 15 kills on 28 swings to lead the Dragons, who had 35 total kills on 63 total attacks and only six attack errors. Hiebert also had six digs.
One day after nearly posting a triple-double in the 3-0 win over No. 4 Salt Lake, Jorn posted a career-high 33 assists with two ace serves.
A potential national championship contender, Southern Idaho took Hutchinson's best shot in the opening set with the Blue Dragons and survived with a 25-23 win. The Golden Eagles then slowed Hutchinson's offensive roll, holding the Blue Dragons to .179 hitting in rolling to wins in sets 2 and 3.
Hiebert completed an impressive weekend with .444 hitting on 13 kills against CSI. Ndekwe had eight kills on .375 hitting.
Jorn tallied 28 assists, six digs and a season-high four ace serves.
Kelsey Mulligan had seven digs and Reed had six digs.
