The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team looks to extend a 20-match winning streak in home openers on Friday night as the 2019 Blue Dragons play in front of the home fans for the first time against Dodge City.

Match time for Hutch's home and Jayhawk West opener is 6:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The match will be streamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network.

The last time the Blue Dragons dropped a home opener was 1998 when the Blue Dragons lost to Cowley College in the old Blue Dragon Early-Season Classic. The Dragons started this streak with a victory over Hesston College in 1999.

The 2019 Blue Dragons are 1-3 heading into the home opener on Friday. Last week at the NMMI Classic in Roswell, NM, the Blue Dragons lost to Pima (3-0), No. 16 New Mexico Military (3-1) and Odessa College (3-1) and swept South Mountain for their only victory of the season.

The Blue Dragons hit just .168 in the four matches, averaging 10.7 kills per set. The Dragons also had 1.53 blocks, and 12.53 digs and 1.63 blocks per set. Hutch did serve tough with 23 total aces last weekend. Freshman setter Lainey Robertson had seven aces and sophomore setter Eboni Sapien had five.

Freshman Katelyn Elstun led Hutch offensively in New Mexico with 3.00 kills per set (45 kills) and a .223 hitting percentage. Freshman middle Jenna Thorne had a huge match against South Mountain with 18 kills on .452 hitting. She finished the weekend with 2.15 kills per set on .235 hitting. Sophomore Eden Hiebert had 1.53 kills on .154 hitting.

Freshman libero Alissa Bautista averaged 3.73 digs per set. Freshman Jaydin Schake had 15 total digs, the only Hutch player to average a block per set over the first four matches of the season.

So far, Dodge City has won just two of 20 sets played this season. On Tuesday, the Conquistadors dropped a pair of three-set matches to Pratt and Neosho County in Dodge City.

The Blue Dragons will play host to Garden City on Monday night at the Sports Arena.
