EL DORADO – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team saw a 16-match winning streak against Butler snapped on Monday night at the Power Plant.

The Grizzlies won their seventh match in a row in a 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 victory over Hutchinson. That's the first Grizzly win over the Blue Dragons since Sept. 11, 2002.

The Blue Dragons fall to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the Jayhawk West. Butler is now 9-5 and 4-3.

Hutchinson saw a 10-3 lead disappear in the first set as Butler closed the Blue Dragons out with an 11-4 run. The Dragons had second-set leads of 17-13 and 20-16 only to see the Grizzlies go on a 9-3 run to win take a 2-0 match lead.

The Blue Dragons looks all but done in the third trailing 22-11, but reeled off nine consecutive points to cut the Grizzly lead 22-20. That rally was snuffed out by Hutch attack errors 24 and 25 and the Grizzlies completed the sweep with a kill.

Of those 25 attack errors, 11 were at the hands of Butler's block.

Freshman Katelyn Elstun had 13 kills to lead the Blue Dragons, hitting .171 on 34 attacks. Freshman Jenna Thorne finished with six kills on .111 hitting. Freshman Camila Espejo had five hits on .059 hitting.

Hutchinson had seven team blocks. Thorne and Jaydin Schake had three blocks each. Freshman libero Alissa Bautista had 18 digs. Lainey Robertson had 14 assists. Eboni Sapien had 12 digs.

The Blue Dragons take on Independence on the road at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the ICC Fieldhouse.
