INDEPENDENCE – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team rebounded from an unforgettable Monday with a 3-0 Jayhawk West road sweep of Independence on Wednesday at the ICC Fieldhouse.

After being swept at Butler on Monday, the Blue Dragons did the same to the Pirates on Wednesday with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-14 victory.

The Dragons improve to 7-9 overall and gets Hutch back to .500 in conference play at 4-4. The Blue Dragons are 3-5 in their grueling two-week stretch of 11 matches in 14 days. Hutchinson now heads to Tyler, Texas, to play three matches in the TJC Classic.

Freshman outside hitter Katelyn Elstun hit .391 and had a match-high 11 kills on 23 swings to lead the Blue Dragons. Freshman outside hitter Camila Espejo hit .353 with nine kills on 17 swings.

Sophomore setter Eboni Sapien had 19 assists and three ace serves. Freshman setter Lainey Robertson had 11 assists. Sophomore libero Alissa Bautista finished with 17 digs.

The Dragons had six team blocks. Freshman middle Myracle Lettries finished with four total blocks.
