Coming off a rough week where the scores didn't tell the entire story, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team is back as home Wednesday to meet Colby in a Jayhawk West showdown.

Both teams have plenty to play for in the 6:30 p.m. match.

The Blue Dragons (10-16, 6-5) look to snap a five-match losing streak and took to further strengthen their lock on fourth place in the Jayhawk West. The top four teams at the end of the season will be host teams for the opening of the Region VI Tournament.

With a 6-5 league mark, Hutchinson has a one-half game lead on fifth-place Butler. The Grizzlies already own a victory over Hutchinson this season. The Blue Dragons play Colby on Wednesday and travel to Garden City on Saturday before meeting Butler next week at the Sports Arena.

Colby (20-4, 11-1) still has aspirations of a Jayhawk West title. Back in the receiving votes list this week in the NJCAA Rankings, the Trojans have lost just one league match, that coming to No. 3 Seward County.

Hutchinson dropped a four-set match at Colby on September 18 (25-21, 19-25, 7-25, 19-25). The Blue Dragons were held to a negative .039 attack percentage by the Trojans. The Dragons hit a negative .232 in the final two sets.

Katelyn Elstun had eight kills and Eden Hiebert had five kills to lead the Blue Dragons in that match. Macarena Ruiz and Karleeann Ramos had 15 kills each to lead the Trojans, who hit .217 against Hutchinson.

The Blue Dragons did play tremendous floor defense in the first Colby match, out-digging the Trojans 73-70. Alissa Bautista had 20 digs, while Elstun and Eboni Sapien had 13 digs each.

Since defeating Pratt on October 5, the Blue Dragons have lost to No. 3 Seward County, Jefferson College, Tyler, No. 10 Indian Hills and Missouri State-West Plains.

Hutchinson became the first Jayhawk West team this season to win a set against Seward County. The Blue Dragons went five against Jefferson College and were competitive in the other matches at the Grizzly Invitational.
