The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team will look to end a seven-match losing streak on Saturday with a key Jayhawk West road trip to Garden City.

Match time is 6 p.m. at the Perryman Athletic Complex in Garden City.

The Blue Dragons looked poised to snap its longest skid since 2010 on Wednesday at home against Colby. Trailing the Trojans 2-1 and 15-9 in the fourth set, the Blue Dragons rallied to force a decisive fifth set. The Blue Dragons were outscored 6-1 to start the final set and never recovered.

Still, sophomore Eden Hiebert pounded down a career-high 21 kills, setter Eboni Sapien had a career-high 46 assists and freshman libero Alissa Bautista had the second-most digs in Blue Dragon single-match history with 34 digs.

As play begins on Saturday, the Blue Dragons are in fifth place in the Jayhawk West with a 6-6 record, one game behind Butler (8-6), which already owns a win over Hutch this season. The top four teams in the league will earn home matches for the first round of the Region VI Tournament which begins in November.

The Blue Dragons have Garden City, Butler at the Arena next Wednesday, Independence at home and a road trip to Butler to close out the regular season All four of those matches will be played over the next nine days. Butler has just two league matches remaining.

The Dragons swept Garden City in September at the Sports Arena, hitting .438 as a team, holding Garden to .181 hitting. Camila Espejo had 12 kills on .571 hitting and Katelyn Elstun had nine kills on .750 hitting. Adisyn Swan had 11 kills on .276 hitting to lead Garden City.

Garden City snapped a six-match losing stream on Wednesday with a 3-0 non-league win at Lamar. Katarina Vojvodic had 14 kills on .464 hitting to lead the Busters.
