GREAT BEND – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team rallied from a set down to force a fifth set on Monday night against Barton, but the Blue Dragons couldn't complete the comeback.

The Blue Dragons had a three-match winning streak snapped after a 25-19, 20-25, 21-21, 25-17, 13-15 loss to the Cougars at the Barton Gym.

With their postseason seeding already locked up, the Blue Dragons complete the regular season with a 13-18 overall record and a 9-7 mark in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson will play host to an opening-round Region VI Tournament match on Tuesday, November 5 at the Sports Arena.

Trailing 2-1, the Blue Dragons used an early 7-1 run to take charge of the fourth set. Jenna Thorne and Myracle Lettries put down a double block for a fourth-set Hutchinson win.

But Barton scored three early blocks to start the fifth set to take a 4-2 lead. Kills by Eden Hiebert and Thorne and a Thorne/Lettries combo block gave the Dragons a 7-6 lead. An Alissa Bautista service game Hutch a 10-9 lead, but Barton scored 5 of the next 6 points for a 14-11 lead.

Hutch had a chance to knot the score at 12, but a Barton over-set was hit long. The critical two-point swing have Barton a 13-11 lead.

A Katelyn Elstun kill and Barton double-contact violation erased two match points, but the Cougars finished off the Blue Dragons in a 15-13 fifth-set victory.
