Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team opens the postseason on Tuesday night with the opening round Region VI Tournament against the Butler Grizzlies.

The regional opener begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will provide a live stream beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Hutchinson-Butler winner will travel to Liberal on Sunday for the Region VI Tournament semifinals at Noon against the Seward County/Pratt winner.

The Blue Dragons have recovered from a six-match losing streak by winning 3 of their final four matches, all Jayhawk West matches to earn a home match for the eight-consecutive season.

Hutchinson and Butler split home matches in 2019.

The Grizzlies struck first with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 victory at the Power Plant over Hutchinson on September 23. Butler out-hit the Dragons .214-.086. Katelyn Elstun had 14 kills on .147 hitting. Amalie Rupertova had 10 kills and Morgan Bryand nine to pace the Grizzlies.

Exactly one month later, the Blue Dragons tied the season series with an identically played match, but it was Hutchinson winning 28-26, 26-22, 29-27.

Camila Espejo hit .395 on 20 kills to lead Hutch to a .174 hitting percentage. The Grizzlies hit .238 with 12 blocks.

The Blue Dragons enter the match hitting .170 for the season with 11.27 kills per set. The Dragons average 1.99 bocks, 15.31 digs and 1.51 aces per set.

The Grizzlies are hitting .220 as a team with 10.61 kills per set. Butler averages 2.64 blocks, 18.72 digs and 1.62 aces per set.
