The Hutchinson Community College women's and men's cross country team heads to the longest-running collegiate cross country meet on Saturday when the Blue Dragons run in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree at the famed OSU Cross Country Couse.
The NJCAA No. 12-ranked Blue Dragon women will run at 8 a.m. The 22nd-ranked Hutchinson men will go at 8:30 a.m.
Last season, Blue Dragon Maggie Lambert just missed a Top 50 finish in the Cowboy Jamboree. The posted a time of 20 minutes, 59.8 seconds on the tough 5K course. Lambert comes off her career-best race two weeks ago at the Missouri Southern Stampede, posting the second-fastest time in Blue Dragon women's history with a time of 19:06.06.
Freshman Aileen Gomez had the 16th-fastest time in team history at Missouri Southern with a 28th-place showing of 19:35.34.
The Blue Dragons had five Top 100 finishers in a very tough NCAA Division II meet two weeks ago.
One year ago, Hutchinson's average team time at the Jamboree was 22:25.9. With two strong finishes thus far this season, that mark on the OSU course is in jeopardy.
Two weeks ago, the Blue Dragons ran all freshmen at Missouri Southern. Head coach Justin Riggs is hoping to get some of his injured runners back for Saturday.
The Blue Dragons averaged 29 minutes, 16.2 seconds on the 8K Jamboree course and finished 13th overall.
Freshman Conner Kaufman led the Blue Dragons two weeks ago at Missouri Southern with a 43rd-place time of 27:36.69 in his first career 8K race.
Tony Ibarra finished 45th in 27:27.94, Grant Clothier was 59th with a time of 27:55.45. Kade Gerlach placed 63rd in 28:03.07and Gavin Alexander was 73rd in 28:17.19.
