Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's and men's cross country teams are two weeks removed from a dazzling season debut at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic.

The Blue Dragons on Saturday will compete in regulation-distance races at the 29th Annual Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. The 5K women's race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 8K men's race at 9 a.m.

MEN'S PREVIEW
Freshman Andrew Kibet will lead the Blue Dragons into the MSSU Stampede. Kibet as the USTFCCCA NJCAA Division I Make Runner of the Week after winning the Masterson Twilight two weeks ago.

The Blue Dragons had six runners finish in the Top 10 two weeks ago in leading the Blue Dragons to their first team title since 2016.

Hutchinson finished ninth overall at the Stampede with 221 points and an average time of 27:36.69. Connor Kaufman posted a time of 27 minutes, 12.26 seconds to lead the Blue Dragons. Jared Stark was the next Blue Dragon to cross the line with a 43rd-place time of 27.24.72.

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
Like the Blue Dragon men, the Hutchinson women also had six runners finish in the Top 10 of their first team title since 2012.

Hutchinson freshman Lisayo Ewoi wants to finish better than two weeks ago. She led the Masterson Twilight until the final 50 yards. Ewoi ran a time of 18:32.8 to finish as Hutch's top runner. There were plenty of Blue Dragons right behind her.

Sophomore Aileen Gomez placed fourth overall with a time of 19:49.4. Freshman Gabby Collins played fifth in 19:55.5 and sophomore Sarah Patteson placed sixth in 19:58.6. Sophomore America Garcia was the fifth Blue Dragon to score. She was eighth in 20:20.0

Sophomore Saw Ahmara was the sixth Blue Dragon to place in the Top 10 with a 10th-place finish in 20:41.7.

The Blue Dragons finished 10th in the 2017 team standings with 242 points. Aileen Gomez was 28th with a time of 19:35.34, which was the 16th-fastest time in Blue Dragon history.
