VICTORIA – With three runners placing in the Top 10, the No. 6-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team captured its second team championship of the season.

The Blue Dragons won the Black Division of the Fort Hays State Open and Sand Plum Nature Trail on Saturday. The Dragons scored 51 team points. Trinidad State was second with 74. Regis University was third with 89 and Pratt was the next nearest Jayhawk Conference school with 143 points.

Hutchinson adds the Fort Hays State team title to the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic title it won on August 31. This also marks the first time that the Blue Dragon women won two team championships in non-dual meets since the national championship year of 2001.

Freshmen Lisayo Ewoi and Gabby Collins and sophomore Sarah Patteson were Hutch's Top 10 finishers.

Ewoi placed sixth overall with a time of 19 minutes, 54.0 seconds. Patteson was right behind in seventh at 19:58.3. Collins was ninth at 20:12.6.

A pair of sophomores rounded out the Top 5 runners to figure in the team scoring. Aileen Gomez placed 18th in a time of 20:26.4. America Garcia was 22nd in 20:36.9.

The Blue Dragons also got strong efforts from their sixth and seventh runners. Saw Ahmara placed 30th with a time of 20:51.7 and Macy Linenberger was 34th in 21:03.2.

Other Blue Dragon performances were: Ashton Schlickau (73rd, 22:08.0); Caitlin Schlickau (74th, 22:10.2); Carissa Youngs (87th, 22:58.5).

The Blue Dragons are off for two weeks before competing in the 2018 Region VI Championships on October 27 in Winfield.
