GARDEN CITY – In frigid windy conditions, the Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team earned a 12th-place finish on Saturday at the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships at Buffalo Dunes Gold Club in Garden City.

Entering Saturday's national championship as the No. 7 team in the national rankings, the Blue Dragons posted their best finish since placing ninth in 2004.

With temperatures in the low 40s and a 30-mile per hour wind at race time, The Blue Dragons saw their race get off to a bit of a rocky start as several runner got sifted toward the back of a very fast field.

The Dragons did recover to have two USTFCCA All Americans as freshman Gabby Collins led the way with a 33rd-place finish in a time of 20 minutes, 31.6 seconds.

Sophomore Sarah Patteson was just behind College in 39th in a time of 20:39.0.

Still hampered by an injury, freshman Lisayo Ewoi was third for the Dragons finishing in 116th place in a time of 21:59.

Sophomore America Garcia was 120th in a time of 22:00 and sophomore Saw Ahmara rounded out the scoring for the Dragons finishing 134th in a time of 22:11.

Sophomore Macy Linenberger ended the day in 182nd place in 22:54 and Aileen Gomez was 190th in 23:06;

Iowa Central easily won the team title with 45 points followed by El Paso and then Southern Idaho.

Cowley was the top finisher for the Jayhawk Conference coming home in fourth place. Allen was just ahead of the Dragons in 11th. Hutchinson finished with 389 points. Allen finished with 385 points.
