Both teams come off Top 10 matchups one week ago.
The Blue Dragons shut down No. 10 Coffeyville in a 31-0 victory at Gowans Stadium. The Grizzlies had a dramatic 26-23 victory at then-No. 8 Garden City in a game that ended on a blocked Broncbuster field goal attempt.
This will be the fourth Top 10 matchup of the season for Hutchinson with wins over No. 2 Iowa Western, No. 9 Iowa Central and No. 10 Coffeyville.
Blue Dragon quarterback Christian Johnson led the way for Hutchinson in its victory over Coffeyville last week with 148 total yards and three total touchdowns against the Red Ravens. Johnson was 12 of 24 passing for 199 yards with touchdowns of 30 and 76 yards. Johnson also rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown.
With their shutout of the Red Ravens last week, the Blue Dragon defense is now the No. 1 scoring defense in the NJCAA, allowing 9.6 points per game. The Dragons are fourth in defensive yards allowed at 214.6 yards per game and are No. 2 in rushing defense allowing 44.4 yards per game.
Over the last four games the Blue Dragons are giving up 25.5 rushing yards per game.
Butler enters play with the third-ranked scoring defense in the KJCCC, allowing 17.3 points per game. The Grizzlies are second in total defense allowing 260,8 total yards per game. They have the leading pass defense in the league at 154.2 yards through the air allowed and they are third in rush defense at 106.7 yards per game allowed.
The Blue Dragons look for a bit of revenge on Saturday night. While the Blue Dragons went on to win the 2024 NJCAA national championship, Hutchinson suffered its only loss last season committing six turnovers in a 27-22 loss to Butler at Gowans Stadium. That outcome led to Hutchinson, Butler and Coffeyville sharing the 2024 Jayhawk Conference title.
The Blue Dragons have now won 11 games in a row, which is the fourth-longest winning streak in program history.
Hutchinson is 4-0 on the road this season and have won 23 consecutive true road contests that date back to the 2021 season.
Saturday's meeting will be the 102nd all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Butler. The continuous series that started in 1932 is dead even at 50-50-1.
The Blue Dragons have played Butler more than any single opponent in program history.
The Dragons are 24-21-1 in games played in Hutchinson and 26-28 in games played in El Dorado.
Before last year's 27-22 loss to Butler at Gowans Stadium, Hutchinson had won three games in a row, 8 of the last 9 and 16 of the last 18 meetings in the series.
