Hutchinson Community College sophomore linebacker Teegan Haines had a huge game in a conference-clinching victory over Garden City last Saturday and was named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week.
Haines, a sophomore from McPherson, had a team-high 11 tackles, including three tackles for loss and one quarterback sack in a 27-14 victory by the top-ranked Blue Dragons over No. 14 Garden City last Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
Haines also had a forced fumble and a pass broken up on a fourth-down play that got the Dragons back after a turnover on downs. The Blue Dragons held Garden City's league-best rushing attack to 91 yards on 34 carries and 210 yards of total offense.
This was the second time this season Haines was named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week. This was the fifth time a Blue Dragon earned conference defensive honors. Haines is the 13th Blue Dragon to claim conference weekly honors, either offensive, defensive or special teams, this season.
Haines and the No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons will play host to No. 4 Northwest Mississippi in the NJCAA Division I National Semifinals on December 6 at Gowans Stadium.
