Bio
Malcolm Askew joins the Blue Dragon Football coaching staff for the 2026 season as the defensive backs coach.
After his playing days at Auburn University, Askew has spent time at three four-year programs with varying assignments at all three stops.
Askew comes to the Blue Dragons after spending time at the University of Missouri. For the 2023 season, Askew was the assistant director of player personnel for the Tigers, who won the Cotton Bowl in the 2023 season as Missouri defeated Ohio State 14-3.
In 2024 and 2025, Askew served as the Assistant Director of Recruiting and Communications for the Tiger Football program. In 2024, Missouri won the Music City Bowl and in 2025 the Tigers participated in the Gator Bowl.
Askew was the assistant receivers coach at Georgia Southern University in the 2022 season. Askew coached the player who became GSU’s all-time receptions leader and Georgia Southern played in the Camellia Bowl.
Askew began his coaching career as a defensive assistant the spring of 2022 at his alma mater, Auburn. He also serves as a Player Personnel Analyst and NIL liaison with the Tigers.
He has coached five players who attained professional football status: Jaylin Simpson (a fifth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts), Nehemiah Pritchett (a fifth-round draft pitch of the Seattle Seahawks) and D.J. James (a sixth-round draft pick of the Seahawks). Khaleb Hood and Amare Jones are playing professionally in Canada.
Askew was a defensive back from 2017 to 2021 at Auburn. He was a part of the Tigers’ 2017 SEC West championship team and the 2018 Music City Bowl championship Auburn team. He earned all-SEC Academic honors in 2018.
A native of McCalla, Alabama, Askew earned a bachelors of sports Kinesiology and leadership from Auburn University in 2019 and a master’s in Adult education from Auburn in 2021.
