BOX BREAKS DRAGON RECORD, HUTCHCC LEADS JAYHAWK AFTER 2 ROUNDS

MANHATTAN – One of the wildest days in Hutchinson Community College men's golf history finished with a school-record round and a four-stroke team lead after 36 holes of the Jayhawk Conference Championship at Colbert Hills Country Club.
Sophomore Charlie Box shot a school-record and course-record-tying 62 in the opening round on Monday and led by 12 stroke after 18 holes. The Dragons then shot a season-high 309 in the second round and trailed Garden City by two strokes on three different occasions before settling for a four-stroke lead at 589.
Box leads the individual title chase by five strokes over Garden City's Ilan Dufrenoy. The Blue Dragons have five golfers in the Top 10 entering Tuesday's final round.
That final round begins at 8:30 a.m. with all groups going off the first tee. The Blue Dragons will tee off between 9:20 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Led by Box's 62, the Blue Dragons got off to a blistering start, posting an opening round 8-under 280. The Dragons counted Box's 62, David Razinskas' 1-under 71, Jack Northgraves' 1-over 73 and Louis Ross' 3-over 74. The Blue Dragons had leads as large as 18 strokes during the round and led by 12 strokes at the end of the first round.
Things dramatically changed for the Blue Dragons in the second round with their 12-stroke lead disappearing just eight holes into the round. Garden City out-shot the Blue Dragons 301-309 in the second round, but the Dragons' 589 total after two rounds leads the Broncbusters by four strokes.
The Blue Dragons counted rounds from Box (72), Ross (78), Northgraves (78) and Jaydon Carruthers (81).
Box's opening-round 62 broke the Blue Dragon record of Grady Pauls, who shot 63 in Enid, Oklahoma in 2007. He tied the Colbert Hills course record, becoming the third player to shoot 62 at Colbert Hills.
Box had 10 birdies and eight pars in his record round, posting five-straight birdies from Nos. 12 through 16. Box shot 32 on the front nine and 30 on the back nine.
Northgraves is tied for fifth individually at 7-over 151. Ross is tied for ninth at 152. Razinskas is tied for 11th at 163 and Carruthers is tied for 25th at 163.
Two Blue Dragon individual players are in the individual top five after two rounds.
Corey Scullion is fourth at 5-over 149. Scullion had rounds of 75 and 74.
Tyler Walker is tied for fifth at 7-over 151. Walker posted rounds of 73 and 78.
Cal Schultz is 32nd at 175 (91-84).
