DRAGON GOLFERS RALLY TO WIN REGION 6 TITLE; BOX CLAIMS PLAYOFF

NEWTON – Trailing by four strokes entering Tuesday's final round of the 2025 Region 6 Championship, the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team made some key putts down the stretch to complete the comeback at Sand Creek Station.

The Blue Dragons out-shot Dodge City by six strokes in Tuesday's final round to defeat the Conquistadors by two strokes and win back-to-back Region 6 team titles. The Blue Dragons won their fifth Region 6 title in the last six seasons and the program's 23rd overall league championship.

Blue Dragon sophomore Charlie Box won a two-hole playoff with Dodge City's Rhys Nicholas to capture the Region 6 Individual championship on Tuesday. Box, Louis Ross and individual player Corey Scullion earned all-Region honors with their Top 10 individual finishes.

Hutchinson will next compete at the NJCAA Central District Championship next Monday and Tuesday at Tiffany Greens Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Blue Dragons shot a 298 in the final round on a windy Tuesday. The Dragons used scores from Box (73), Jack Northgraves (73), Ross (76) and David Razinskas (76) in the final around. The Dragons out-shot Dodge City 298-306 in the final round. The Dragons' 54-hole total of 880 was two strokes better that Dodge City (882).

Down the stretch, the Blue Dragons got an eagle from Box and a birdie from Razinskas on No. 15, a birdie from Northgraves on No. 16, a key 10-foot par put on No. 18 from Ross and a par on 18 from Box to maintain their two-stroke lead.

Garden City was third at 890 after a final-round-low 293. Barton was fourth at 918 and Coffeyville was fifth at 1,056.

After Box and Nicholas tied for individual honors at 5-under 211, both players bogeyed the first playoff hole on No. 18. Then on No. 16, box won the playoff with a par.

Box is the first Blue Dragon to win the Region 6 individual title since Harry Crockett won it in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022. Box is the 11th Blue Dragon to capture the Region 6 individual championship.

Box and Ross earned first-team All-Region 6 honors with Top 5 finishes.

Ross finished fourth overall at 220, carding a final round 76 on Tuesday.

Scullion earned second-team honors after tying for eighth at 225. Scullion had a 74 on Tuesday.

Northgraves' 73 on Tuesday helped him climb to a 14th-place finish at 228.

Jaydon Carruthers and individual player Cal Schultz tied for 16th at 229. Both players shot 79 on Tuesday.

Razinskas and individual player Tyler Walker tied for 18th at 230. Razinskas shot a 76 on Tuesday while Walker closed the tournament with a 79.
