Hutchinson Community College softball sophomore shortstop Bailey Backhaus was named the Jayhawk Conference Division I Player of the Week for the third time this season on Tuesday.

A sophomore from Newkirk, Oklahoma, Backhaus had four multi-hit games in a 4-0 week for Hutchinson, including her first career five-hit game.

For the week, Backhaus was 13 for 18 (.722) from the leadoff spot and tallied an on-base percentage of .737. She had two doubles and two triples with 11 runs scored and seven RBIs. She also stole seven bases.

In Game 2 vs. Garden City, Backhaus went 5 for 7 with a double, four RBIs and three runs and two stolen bases.

Backhaus is the nation's leader in batting average (.565), first in hits (87), third in triples (9), fifth in stolen bases (51) and sixth in runs scored (76).

Backhaus was also named Jayhawk Conference Player of the week in Week's 1 and 9. She is the sixth Blue Dragon to be named conference Player of the Week. Blue Dragon Pitchers have been named conference Pitcher of the week five times.

The Blue Dragons play at Dodge City at Noon and 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Legends Park and will close the regular season on Saturday at Barton.
