DRAGONS DEFEAT DODGE TO ADVANCE IN REGION 6

DODGE CITY – Brie Brawner's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning scored Tailor Golly with the go-ahead run and the Hutchinson Community College softball team stayed alive in the Region 6 Tournament.
The Blue Dragons defeated Dodge City 4-3 in a second-round elimination game on Saturday afternoon at Legends Park.
Hutchinson (37-10) will now play Butler in a third-round elimination game at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Tied at 3-all entering the fifth inning, Golly had a one-out single and eventually moved to third on a Gabby Stauffer single and walk to Brooke Backhaus. Brawner then hit a moderately deep flyball to center that was caught, but was deep enough to score Golly for a 4-3 lead.
Morgan Tomlinson (21-6) pitched five shutout innings in relief. She got into a big of a jam in the top of the seventh with a pair singles with one out. Tomlinson got a strikeout and groundout to end the game for her 37th career pitching victory.
Tomlinson struck out six with one walk and five hits allowed in her relief performance.
The Blue Dragons were out-hit by Dodge City 9-6.
Golly was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Blue Dragons. Emily Dice was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. Kaibryn Kruger and Gabby Stauffer had the other Blue Dragon hits. Brawner had a pair of RBI groundouts.
The Blue Dragons scored in the first inning for the first time in the Region 6 Tournament. After a Kruger walk and steal of second, she scored on a Golly RBI single. Brawner later hit into a fielder's choice that scored Golly for a 2-0 lead.
The Dragons made is 3-0 in the second when Kruger singled home Bailey Backhaus.
Dodge City tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third with three hits and a Hutchinson error.
Blue Dragon stater Aubree Thomas tosses scoreless innings in the first and second innings before Dodge City erupted in the third. After Tomlinson gave up back-to-back singles once she entered the game in the third, she blanked the Conquistadors over the final five innings.
