DRAGONS LOOK TO CONTINUE DEFENSIVE ROLL AT BARTON

Over the last four games, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team has gotten back to the defensive expectations the program has built over the last 25 seasons.
Allowing only 47.5 points over the last four games, the No. 19-ranked Blue Dragons (8-2, 3-1 KJCCC) are back on the road Wednesday night to take on the Barton Cougars (3-7, 1-3 KJCCC) in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at the newly remodeled Fleske Fieldhouse.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 5:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed exclusively on the Cougar Sports Network a pay-per-view platform.

The Blue Dragon defense has been especially stingy over the last two games - wins over Independence at Seward County.
Hutchinson held the Pirates to 29.4 percent shooting and forced 27 Independence turnovers. The Blue Dragons were even better against Seward County, holding the Saints to 17.5 percent shooting, the seventh-lowest single-game opponent shot percentage in the John Ontjes era. The Dragons were especially strong defensively in the middle two quarters, holding the Saints to 1 of 24 from the field.
The Blue Dragons have jumped up to No. 4 in the KJCCC in scoring defense (56.1 ppg) and field-goal defense (33.9 percent).
Sophomore guard Katie Duncan comes off back-to-back 21-point games to lead the Blue Dragons. Freshman KaMyra Barber had 15 points and 12 rebounds against Seward County. Freshman point guard Whitney Brown is averaging 8.0 assists per game over the last two games.
Barton enters the game on a two-game losing streak, falling to Colby 57-51 in Great Bend and at No. 25 Coffeyville 67-45. The Cougars were held to 30.0 percent shooting with 17 turnovers against the Red Ravens.
All-KJCCC guard Regina Donanu is Barton's leading scorer at 18.0 points per game. She is the fourth-leading scorer in the Jayhawk Conference this season. Donanu scored a career-high 43 points against Cloud County on November 22.
Barton is the only Jayhawk Conference opponent the Blue Dragons have a sub-.500 record against, trailing the series 47-59. The Blue Dragons have won five games in a row, including wins of 59-43 and 63-46 last season.
Hutchinson is 29-11 in the last 40 meetings with Barton.
