COFFEYVILLE – A career day from Noelle Anthon powered the 17th-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team to an 82–69 road win over Coffeyville at Nellis Hall Saturday.
Anthon powered the Blue Dragons with another season-high in scoring with 24 points and had five rebounds. Anthon shot 11-16 from the floor.
Hutchinson improves to 23-5 on the season, and 18-4 in the Jayhawk conference. With the loss, Coffeyville will fall to 19-8 overall and 13-8 in conference play.
Hutchinson and Coffeyville split the season series and extends its win streak to eight games in a row.
Katie Duncan also had a 20-point. Duncan scored 20 points on only nine shot attempts; she went 6-for-9 from the floor and added five 3-pointers. Duncan also tallied a season-high eight assists and added six rebounds and two steals.
As a team, Hutchinson shot an even 50% from the field (28 for 56) and shot a season-best 63.2% from three-point range (12 for 19). The Blue Dragons were 14 for 22 from the free-throw line.
Hutchinson capitalized on 13 Coffeyville turnovers for 18 points, while Coffeyville managed just six points off 12 Hutchinson turnovers. The Blue Dragons also held slight edges in second-chance points (12–9) and bench points (10–6).
Coffeyville shot 43.3% from the field (26 of 60) and 30.8% from beyond the arc (8 of 26). The Red Ravens went 9 of 15 at the free-throw line and outrebounded Hutchinson 36–35.
Coffeyville's Aubrey Hishaw scored a game-high 34 points on 14-for-25 shooting. Hishaw was also active on the boards and had eight rebounds, including six offensive boards, and four assists. Esme Smith was the other Red Raven in double figures, recording a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Coffeyville led by as much as seven early on with Hishaw scoring seven of the team's first nine points. Hutchinson didn't take its first lead until 1:32 remaining in the first quarter when 3-pointers from Delora Pricop and Tayla Galucho made it a 19–17 lead for the Blue Dragons.
A late three from Esme Smith gave Coffeyville a one-point lead after one quarter.
The Blue Dragons surged late in the second quarter, closing on a 7–0 run to take a 38-34 halftime lead. Duncan drilled two three-pointers during that stretch, including one to beat the halftime buzzer.
Coffeyville went on a 7-0 run to take the lead back at 41-40, but that would be the last lead they would hold. Hutchinson returned the favor with 7-0 spurt to take the lead right back at 47-41 with 4:26 remaining in the third.
The Blue Dragons have Wednesday off and return to action for the home finale as they host the Pratt Beavers at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 for Sophomore Recognition Day and the 14th Annual Pinkout.
Game Notes – Noelle Anthon notched a career-high with 24 points. This game marked her second time scoring over 20 points. Katie Duncan scored over 20 points for the eighth time, Duncan set a new career-high with eight assists. KaMyra Barber scored in double-digits for the 19th time this season. Hutchinson's winning streak improves to eight in a row.
