Freshman Chiara Soergel had a sparkling debut in goal for the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team last Thursday.

The 5-foot-8 keeper from Bensheim, Germany, was named the Jayhawk Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the first week of the regular season on Tuesday.

Making her collegiate debut last Thursday against Trinidad State, Soergel had to make eight saves in a 4-0 victory. That is the most saves by a Blue Dragon keeper in her debut game.

Soergel went 1-1 for the week after Hutch dropped a 1-0 defensive struggle with Indian Hills on Saturday. Soergel made three saves in that game.

For the week, Soergel had a .917 save percentage with 11 saves on 12 shots faced.
