JOPLIN, Mo. – Sophomore Sheila Too placed 15th and the Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team placed two in the Top 50 at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday morning at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
The No 17-ranked Blue Dragons finished 11th in the 24-team field filled with NJCAA, NAIA and NCAA Division III teams. The Blue Dragons had all six runners finish in the Top 100.
Hutchinson scored 250 team points in its first 5K race of the 2019 season. Friends University won the team championship with 57 points. Cowley was second with 95 and St. Mary's University was third with 120 points. Butler placed sixth with 142 points and Pratt was ninth with 242 points.
Too was Hutchison's top runner for the second-straight race. She finished 15th with a time of 19 minutes, 39.45 seconds.
Sophomore Gabby Collins was second for Hutchinson. She placed 42nd in 20:50.40.
For Blue Dragon runners ran their first 5K collegiate races on Saturday morning.
Freshman Megan Miller finished 55th with a time of 21:19.91. Sophomore Christina Bruce was 75th in 21:52.83. Freshman Brooklyn Terstriep was 78th in 22:05.05 and freshman Natalie Schroeder was 95th with a time of 23:15.18.
The Blue Dragons will run next Friday at the Emporia State Invitational.
