The Hutchinson Community College men's and women's cross country teams run their final regular-season races of the 2019 season on Saturday.
The fourth-ranked Blue Dragon men and 19th-ranked women will complete at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open. The race will be at FHSU's Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria. The women's race will start at 9 a.m. and the men's race around 9:45 a.m.
There will be roughly a 60-degree temperature difference from when Saturday's race begins in Victoria and two weeks ago at the Emporia State Invitational when the temperatures hovered in the low 90s.
One year ago, the Tiger Open was the only regular-season race the Blue Dragon men didn't win.
Two weeks ago, the Blue Dragons placed third at the Emporia State, finishing just one point behind Cloud County, the nation's No. 1-ranked team. Sophomore Sylvestre Kibarar was Hutch's top runner with defending national champion Andrew Kibet second. Those two runners were 2-3 at Emporia.
Sophomore Sheila Too has been the Hutch women's top runner in each of the first three races. She was 16th Emporia two weeks ago and the Blue Dragons placed fifth.
Hutchinson enters Saturday at the defending team champion.
More than 540 student-athletes representing 36 institutions are registered to participate on Saturday.
