TOO, COLLINS LEAD DRAGONS TO RUNNER-UP FINISH AT TIGER OPEN

VICTORIA – Sophomores Sheila Too and Gabby Collins both placed in the top eight to pace the Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on Saturday at Sand Plum Nature Trail.
The 19th-ranked Blue Dragons scored 111 points, finishing behind only St. Mary's University, which scored 54 points. Tabor College was third with 129. Hutchinson was the top Jayhawk Conference team to place on Saturday. Pratt was fifth with 152 points, Colby seventh with 169 points, Dodge City was 10th with 221 points and Highland was 12th with 244 points.

Five of the six Blue Dragon runners posted season's 5,000-meter best times on Saturday at the usually fast Sand Plum Nature trail course.
The only Hutch runner not to post her best time of the season was Too, who led the Blue Dragons with a seventh-place finish in a time of 19 minutes, 41.9 seconds. Her fastest 5K time this season was 19:36 at Missouri Southern.
Collins posted her best time and placing of 2019 on Saturday. Collins finished seventh with a time of 19:46.5, her fourth career sub-20-minute time.
Other Blue Dragon finishers were Christina Bruce, who placed 28th with a season-best time of 20:46.6, Megan Miller, 31st in 20:49.6; Brooklyn Terstriep, 57th in 21:50.1 and Natalie Schroeder, 22:30.9.
Hutchinson will now have two weeks to prepare for the Region VI Cross Country Championships on October 26 in Iola.
