Hutchinson Community College women's cross country's Faith Jepchirchir's victory in her collegiate debut earned the freshman Blue Dragon runner another honor on Tuesday.
The KJCCC named Jepchirchir the Week 1 Women's Runner of the Week.
Jepchirchir made Hutchinson history by becoming the first Blue Dragon runner to win the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic on Friday at Fun Valley Sports Complex.
Posting the top Blue Dragon time in event history of 18:17.00, the ninth-fastest time overall in Masterson history, Jepchirchir won the race by 16.5 seconds over second-place runner Elizabeth Hernandez of Butler.
Jepchirchir dominated the final mile of the three-mile race. She helped the Blue Dragons to a second-place team finish only behind NCAA Division I Wichita State.
The Blue Dragons are next scheduled to compete at the Chili Pepper Festival on September 28 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
