When Hutchinson won the 2024 Region 6 Tournament, the Dragons had to come through the loser's bracket final in order to earn a berth in their first NJCAA World Series.
Kaibryn Kruger, Hadley Topping and Reese Goetz had the only hits on Saturday in a game that delayed by 95 minutes because of a lightning delay.
Goetz singled to lead off the third inning, but was stranded at second. Topping singled in the fourth inning and Kruger singed in the sixth. Kruger also walked and stole a base in the first inning.
Dodge City's George (21-4) struck out five and walked one in a complete-game performance. The Blue Dragons had six hard-hit balls off George, but all six were corralled by the Dodge City defense.
Hailey Ediger (7-4) took the loss in the pitching circle for the Blue Dragons. Ediger retired 6 of the first 7 batters she faced and struck out a pair.
Dodge City loaded the bases with one out against Ediger, who was lifted for Jessica Schmidt. Dodge City then scored its runs on a pair of bloop singles just over the gloves of Blue Dragon infielders, a wild pitch and a bases-loaded catcher's interference.
Schmidt struck out seven in 4 2-3 innings.
